Apartment Insurance - Debra and I encourage you to get apartment insurance. This will cover the loss of your personal belongings in case of a fire and/or natural disaster. It will also cover you against other personal liabilities. If you go and see Jack Connolly over at Wedgwood, Crane & Connolly Insurance Agency,Inc. - our trusted insurance agent - and tell him that we sent you, he may be able to help you with getting the best rates available.

Public Utilities - The gas and electricity is provide to us through NSTAR. Natural gas as its heat and cooking source. Each departing tenant is responsible for closing their account and Each arriving tenant is required for opening and maintaining a new account.
The Cable company is RCN and it is the only option for cable in the house. RCN provides up to 20 MB upload speeds, digital television and Telephone Services.
Telephones: Verizon is the Telephone carrier. I provide Vonage as the option available
Tenants cannot establish a separate water account with the City of Somerville. We installed a submeter on the apartment's water system. On a tenants move in date we will both take a reading - a zero reading - and calculate the water bill three times a year.
Somerville Constituent Services web page offers you a plethora of help getting to know your new neighborhood. May I suggest you sign up and then request a new resident welcome package.
Somerville had implement very inventive ways to communicated with its citizens. It is done through Constituent Services - 311. May I suggest that you sign up for telephone and email notifications on important events, emergencies and construction that may affect you and your travels through out the city. You do not need a land line to have telephone updates - you can give your cell phone to the city when signing up. Check with the city's web site for more information.
Traffic and Parking rules are very strict in the City and the City enforces all of them without exception. We support the city in their efforts to enforce the rules consistently throughout the city. You will be parking your car in the street, so I suggest you become very familiar with the rules. The Penalties are very strict and expensive.
Snow Emergencies - We will be clearing the snow but if you are inclined to help, we accept everyone! We also work with our neighbors to clear the sidewalks and steps of the elderly in the hood! We would love your help and we have many extra shovels! We will even let you run the snow blower if you want to have some fun! Voter Registration - We both support your right and obligation to participate with your fellow citizens. We encourage you to participate by registering to and voting in all local and national elections.
